Easy Ways to Protect Your Car from Scratches
It's worth taking some simple precautions to reduce the risk of your vehicle getting scratched. However, if your vehicle does get scratched, then its important to repair the damage before rust gets the chance to set in. At Comfort Auto & Body Repair, our technicians are experts at flawlessly repairing car scratches.
Helpful Tips for Preventing Vehicle Scratches
One simple way to decrease the chances of your car getting scratched is to skip over parking spots that would leave you tightly sandwiched between two other vehicles. In such spots, it's more likely that someone will carelessly swing open their door directly into the side of your car, causing scratches and/or denting. If you park more toward the back of the lot, you may have to walk a bit further, but itll likely be less crowded, putting your car at less risk of such damage.
Another way to prevent scratches is to always use non-abrasive washing materials. It's a good idea to only use synthetic microfiber washing mitts because they won't cause scratches, whereas a random rag might. Also, prior to waxing, you should be sure there isn't debris on the surface of your car that could scratch your paint as it gets dragged around. If you want to be extra careful, it's worth being selective about automatic car washes. While automatic car washes are fine most of the time, in some cases they have brushes that don't fully rinse off between cars. In such a scenario, debris from a previous car may get trapped on a brush and then scratch the next vehicle that goes through. By simply checking the reviews for a particular automatic car wash, you can get a sense of whether this is an issue there.
Vandalism is often to blame for vehicle scratches. When a vandal "keys" a car, the scratches are often deeper and longer, making the repairs more difficult. When you're out and about, you can mitigate this risk by parking in areas that are under surveillance. At home, it's best to keep your car parked in the garage to minimize the risk of it being vandalized.
