Easy Ways to Prevent Fuel Waste

With gas prices predicted to stay soaring for the foreseeable future, it's worth finding ways to ensure you're not letting fuel go to waste. There are some fuel-saving measures you can easily address yourself, while others can be affordably taken care of at the shop. At Comfort Auto & Body Repair, our local mechanics can conduct maintenance that will help your vehicle attain better fuel-efficiency. Come and see us when you need any type of maintenance to be done on your vehicle.

Simple Tips for Boosting Gas Mileage

As you're commuting to work or out running errands, there are easy ways that you can help your car get more miles per gallon. You'll want to make sure you're driving with proper tire pressure, which generally should be at a certain level between 30 and 35 psi. It's best to check your exact tire pressure specification and then inflate your tires as required. If your tires are underinflated, then your engine may have to exert more power to get the soft rubber to roll forward, causing a dip in MPGs. Underinflated tires can also increase the risk of a blowout. Another way you can prevent fuel waste is by ensuring that your gas cap is tightly fastened after each time you get gas. If your gas cap isn't fully secured, then fuel might evaporate before your engine has the chance to put it to use.

At our local auto shop, we can complete maintenance tasks that will help your car get better fuel-economy. Air filters should be replaced at 12,000 to 15,000 miles so that a proper quantity of air can reach the combustion chamber. In turn, your engine won't burn additional fuel as it attempts to make up for a shortage of air. And fuel filters need to be changed out between 20,000 and 30,000 miles so that contaminants don't hurt gas mileage and engine performance. We can also complete other basic maintenance tasks---such as oil changes and spark plug replacement---that will help your car achieve optimal fuel-efficiency.
