Warning Signs of Suspension Trouble
If your suspension is faulty, you may notice issues related to braking. A bad suspension can cause your vehicle to feel like it's nose-diving during the braking process. Also, suspension trouble could make it take longer to come to a stop after you engage the brake pedal. A common sign of suspension failure is that the vehicle begins bouncing heavily whenever you go over any little bump. And with a bad spring, you may hear clunking noises when driving on rough patches of road. A damaged spring may also cause your vehicle to sit lower in one corner.
If your suspension isn't working properly, tire tread may wear down unevenly, which could then lead to bald spots forming on your tires. With suspension trouble, it could also feel as though your car is drifting or swaying when you take sharp corners. And if your shocks have become leaky, then you'll likely need to replace them.
Fails The Bounce Test
You can conduct a quick test to get a better idea of if your suspension is in bad shape. First, ensure that your vehicle is securely parked and won't roll. Then walk to the front end and press down hard on it. Rock the front end twice and let go. After that, repeat this step on the vehicle's rear. Upon releasing, if your vehicle rocks more two or three times on its own, then suspension trouble could be brewing.
